This month, your trees are planted in 13 projects and 9 countries. Here is a brief update on some of them.
Ecosia in Burkina Faso - Partner: Hommes et Terre
  • Together with our partner Hommes et Terre we are planting trees in very dry conditions in Senegal and Burkina Faso, in order to make the soil fertile again. This month, the earthwork has started in both these projects, which means our partners are currently busy creating so-called half-moons in the soil, in order to prepare it for the rainy season. These half-moons create a micro basin that will retain water for as long as possible after the rains have passed, and increase the chances of the seeds to germinate.
Ecosia in France - Partner: Replanter notre forêt provençale
  • We also started our first ever project in France. Together with Replanter notre forêt provençale we have now started planting fire resistant native species around fire stations in southern France, in order to shield them from future fires and raise awareness among local communities about wildfires and their causes. Additionally, we are working with young people to take care of the trees.
Ecosia in Uganda - Partner: Jane Goodall Institute
  • In Uganda, we are working with the Jane Goodall Institute to plant tree corridors that connect remaining forests, so chimps can safely move between them. Only 5000 chimpanzees remain in Uganda, and their habitat is shrinking due to a growing demand for charcoal and firewood.
Ecosia in Indonesia - Partner: Gunung Saran Lestari Foundation
  • In Indonesia, our partners at Gunung Saran Lestari Foundation are working with smallholder farmers to  plant trees in Tembawang, or forest gardens, which is helping reduce dependency on palm oil plantations in Borneo. This past month, they have kickstarted a new contract with Ecosia and they are in the midst of training the new farmers joining this project.
