This month, your trees are planted in the following 5 projects and countries (actually, in one one of them we are not technically planting trees)
- In the Philippines, our partners NTFP-EP are working on restoring degraded lands in partnership with communities by using a technique called “Rainforestation”. Rainforestation ensures community-based conservation and landscape restoration, and sustainable livelihoods for indigenous and local communities. More specifically, NTFP is working with the Akeanon-Bukidnon indigenous peoples of Aklan. Planting native trees in their landscape will not only diversify the landscape, but lead to healthier forests and sustained livelihoods for communities.
- In Uganda, we are working with Kijani Forestry to reduce pressure on old growth forests by planting fast growing tree species on farmers lands. This past month, they have kickstarted a new contract with Ecosia and are in the midst of setting up nurseries and training staff.
- In India, we have been working with Symagine and female entrepreneurs in West Bengal to plant fruit trees. This project not only empower women but also brings new livelihood opportunities.
- In Ivory Coast, our partner APAF is planting fertiliser trees with cocoa farmers to help revitalize their lands and support them in transitioning away from monoculture plantations and the use of harmful chemical fertilisers and pesticides. They have just completed a very ambitious round of tree planting!
- In Tanzania, we are working with the LEAD Foundation to support FMNR, or Kisiki Hai in Swahili. This means that they train farmers to identify already existing shrubs, teach them how to manage and prune them so that they grow into larger trees over time. This month, they completed a baseline mapping so that they can measure changes over time. Learn more about this method in this video.
